Feather on the Forest Ground

Like a feather on the forest ground

Just hiding down between the weed

won't be blown and won't be seen

Just a feather on the forest ground

not visible to any passing being

insignificant and with no meaning

Little feather on the forest ground

plant your roots and stand up tall

just realise you're not alone

As feather of the forest ground

at the front, just like a tree

with weather coming strong at me

Like a feather on the forest ground

I grew my roots and stood up tall

would not waver, would not fall

Back in 2021 a couple of friends and mine and I went up to Venø, an island in the Limfjord in Denmark. Already from the moment we had to embark on a tiny lil ferry to cross over to the island, I was ecstatic! We ended up having a really lovely weekend trip to the place and apart from the most creepiest of places we stayed at, there was really nothing left to wish. A place for ourselves in the woods, super close to the seaside and of course a tiny island (almost) just for us!

One day we walked through the forest of the house and found some buzzing ant-colonies, pheasants and also, this lovely feather. I had just gotten my camera (Covid purchase...) and had not long before realised that when taking pictures you are not just passive with regards to your surroundings, but you can in fact impact them and make them be part of your feelings and message in that moment.

It is a pretty obvious thought, but it was still something I hadn't really been considering during my first couple of photography excursions.

Anyway, this photograph was taken putting this lesson in to practice and the poem followed shortly after.

What you can't see in this picture is that many years later, a very awesome person actually drew a picture of the feather in a sharpy and gave it to me as a present in a frame. The frame has since been exchanged for a more special one, but the sketch is still with me, currently at my mom's place waiting for my next home to be put up.

You may of course interpret it as you wish.

I hope you enjoyed it! :)
